It was a foolish decision, but I was trying to take a risk to start my own business. Unfortunately, the business failed. I also took out loans from several financial institutions, some of which I have repaid and some I have not. I borrowed $13,500 from a private individual at 2% interest per month (at the time, I thought I could manage it). However, there’s a clause in the contract that if I’m late by a month, the rate increases to 3% per month.

I made the first two payments, but then everything fell apart when I moved to Ottawa. Work opportunities didn’t pan out, and my life turned upside down. The notary contract was signed in 2018, so that’s effectively 3 years at 3% per month on $13,500. It’s a significant amount, and even selling the apartment wouldn’t cover it. In our neighborhood, property values are low, and even the kids can’t help out. I have two children. Please, I ask anyone who can help. If they take away the apartment, my mother won’t survive. She’ll be left without a roof over her head in her old age.
